Flashback Fridays

I’m feeling nostalgic to around this time last year and Oria and my epic adventure in Amsterdam, by bicycle.

March 28, 2013

A day spent out in the sunshine.  We rode the bike down into Yaletown this morning for something different.  I find riding along the flat seawall quite enjoyable at 7 months pregnant.  We stumbled upon a stationary locomotive at the Roundhouse Community Centre and decided to take a peek inside.  Oria didn’t want to leave the caboose.  She was driving us in that train many exciting places with all the knobs and wheels.

We were riding past a group of guys practicing tight rope walking and Oria yelled “stop the bike, I need to get off!” so I pulled over and let her out of her seat.  She walked confidently right up to the guys and watched them walk the line, mesmerized.  Then she asked if she could give it a try.  It took her a couple tries to get up the courage, and with my help she hopped up and took a step.  Brave little soul that one.  I just love her enthusiasm for life!

Brilliant, for those times you don’t want to pedal uphill, strap on a helium balloon!

Portlandia

This past weekend Oria and I took a little road trip south to Portland.  We brought our bike and seat along for the adventure.

Aside from the fact my super awesome child quietly entertained herself in the back seat of the car for 8 straight hours on the way there and 6 hours on the way back, We found ourselves a comfortable little place off of airbnb to stay, and we spent alot of time in and around the wide streets of Portland, cruising through some of the most beautiful tree lined neighbourhoods I’d ever seen before.  Big old homes with front porches, everyone out enjoying the last of the warm sunny days before fall and winter head into full swing.

We wandered about the Alberta Arts District, in and out of vintage shops, kids stores, restaurants and more.

Here are a few takes from our adventure!

Freedom to me!

First time out on the bicycle. I’d say she’s pretty proud of herself, and I think the bike is still a little bit too big for her.
What a determined little person. She picked this bike up about 20 x last night until she felt she had mastered getting it going. I love this little personality I spend my days with.

An old card I had kicking around that I came across during our recent move and sorting. Too funny!

Slow Food Cycle Sunday, Pemberton, BC

This is how and where we spent our past weekend.  What better day than slowly riding a bicycle through the Pemberton Farms, with an abundance of fresh food at our fingertips.

50 glorious kilometers of bike riding along a flat paved meandering road, with mountain, river and farms for views.

Breath taking.

Here are some of our highlights.

My bike umbrella holder arrived in the post today from my friends in Japan. I’m pretty excited to get this installed and to try out a rainy day bike ride:)
