Adventure
What a gorgeous day for a bike ride! I had big plans to cycle the in utero baby and toddler baby down around Stanley Park this morning for a biking adventure, but by English Bay the little was done with the cold and ready to turn around.
I thought this to be perfect timimg for crossing the Burrard Bridge and heading back around to Granville Island for a little food, warmth, and excitement.
Oria was quite happy with this plan, though getting there was a bit of a haul for me. Once on the island we came across the most delicious looking cheese stuffed ginormous olives and decided on that as our snack.
I drank hot coffee, Oria chased pidgeons, we listened to some lovely musicians playing outside, smelled the flowers, and managed to warm ourselves up.
I decided today, at the suggestion of my husband, that we would not even attempt cycling up the hill home and instead hopped on a train to the top of the hill and rode down the hill home. Its really hard hauling the belly around on bike when attempting hills. Flat is perfectly easy, I can’t even tell I’m pregnant, but something about those hills really takes it out of me. Besides the train ride was just the icing on the proverbial cake that was our adventure!
Slow Food Cycle Sunday, Pemberton, BC
This is how and where we spent our past weekend. What better day than slowly riding a bicycle through the Pemberton Farms, with an abundance of fresh food at our fingertips.
50 glorious kilometers of bike riding along a flat paved meandering road, with mountain, river and farms for views.
Breath taking.
Here are some of our highlights.
Whining. Oria is getting all 4 eye teeth over the last week, and let me tell you, I’ve heard about it. So much whining going on in this house, its awful, however our nights have been decent so I suppose I’d take daytime whining over horrible nights.
I have discovered a way to stop the whining and enjoy each others company though. The bike! It sure does wonders for your pain, your mood and your day! These are some of the things we got up to and came across along our bike route.
We picked up our new Bobike Mini today and my good friend Clint at Ride On, installed the fenders and seat while Oria ran around the bike shop playing with all of the bikes. She was thoroughly amused, and completely black by the time we left the shop. We set out on our first bicycle adventure in the rain!
Oria was so excited asking what everything we passed was, and held on tight to the handlebars with a big smile on her face!
Many more rides to come.
Test rode bikes all morning. Fun! I miss riding a bike. Since Taking up running, becoming pregnant, having a baby now toddler running around I haven’t touched Blue Betty. Now that spring is here and Oria is mobile, I think its time for a newer ride and that riding will be The perfect balance for me to get exercise and her to get places faster so she can run around. Esthetically the bike I love and the bike that feels right aren’t the same:( Goodbye dream of owning a pretty Dutch city bike. In a city with many hills I’m going to need more gears and to be closer to the handlebars. More test riding to do this week. I tried the male Nirve euro commuter today and loved it, which makes me think we should just fix up one of the bikes we already have of similar style to go with the Bobike Mini we purchased today for Oria!
I’ll post a follow up once we get up and running!
