June 16 - Something That Makes Me Awesome

Well aside from growing 2 humans, I think my sense of adventure makes me awesome. The little fear I have to take a small person around the world on my own and explore places new to myself, knowing no one. I hope we can continue little adventures with 2 babes. Having one travel companion was easy, I wonder if having two means twice the fun? I would love a cargo bike that I can trek my littles around on and take little bike tripping adventures with. I doubt we’ll be flying around the world with two, but bike trips to the islands would be awesome!
So what makes me awesome? My adventurous spirit and can do anything attitude! I hope this continues when I have more than one, I’m sure once we’re settled into a little routine I’ll be good!

A little morning adventure to the Trout Lake Farmers Market. Oria found herself snacking on garden fresh carrots by the bunch and organic strawberries. She seemed to really connect with all the beautiful pink Peonies as well. I’m pretty sure she spent about 10 solid minutes touching, smelling and listening to them. I also spotted the largest succulents I’ve ever seen before.
Lots of colour, freshness and excitement!

Well we have had quite an action packed day! First we started with a good walk for mama with a good friend and our littles. A delicious Americano at le Marche Cafe.
Rushed home to head to my chiro appointment that Oria had to accompany me on. This adventure included 2 bus rides and a sky train ride into Yaletown. From there I thought an adventure to Granville Island would be fun by crossing the water on an aqua bus. We ate delicious strawberries at the market and of course Oria chased the pidgeons. I didn’t feel much like walking too much further so we hopped on a bus even though it was going downtown, because its final stop happens to also have a bus go by that stops us right near home. So what is that? 4 busses, a sky train and an aqua bus. I’m 9 months pregnant. I’m exhausted!!! It’s been a nice couple adventurous days with my sweet pea. Now I’ll need the weekend to recuperate while she visits her grandparents on the island!
What a day!

Oria and I took an adventure by bus to what we thought was going to be a mid week farmers market. As it turned out, this one doesn’t begin until June 5th. So we hopped on ten sky train to downtown, wandered about the mall trying things on, found some street meat, and cupcakes, and tiredly made our way back home.
We had a lovely time together. It was reminiscent of past adventures before becoming so pregnant.
She kept telling me how much fun she was having. That felt really good to share a special day like that with my girl, getting out of our comfort zone and being silly.

Oh The Things We Saw

We drove 150 Km to Squamish today for a taste of the delicious Frost Bites snow cones. We wandered about the farmers market, climbed pretty pink trees, found cool purple bike racks that were pieces of art made like bicycles, took the dog for a hike along a river, and found a crushed up robins egg in amongst some twigs.
It was an epic adventure, with no nap for the toddler, which led to an epic meltdown once we arrived back home and an early bedtime.
We had a fantastic family day!

With no real destination in mind, we rode the bus down into Gastown for a walk about.  I love all the old brick in that part of town.  We wandered into a vintage thrift shop, where Oria tried on each pair of sunglasses sitting on a chair in front of big mirrors.

We finished off the adventure with a chocolate, peanut butter and banana milkshake from Save On Meats.

A little outing with my girl.  We decided it would be fun to just take a bus ride adventure to Kitsilano and maybe find ourselves some tea.  The beautiful magnolia’s are about to bloom and are so pretty.

We found a toy store and stopped in for a look, and they had a kitchen set up for the kids to play with.  We decided it’d be fun to stay and play for a bit.  Then we found ourselves some tea to warm up with (it is super sunny today but also extremely windy).

I think sometimes all a kid needs for excitement in their day is a  trip on a bus.

A morning adventure to the craft store.

We held hands, she proudly marched around with her back pack, and stopped to touch the silky wet crocuses.  She is also an amazing tag along in a tiny shop filled with wonderful little bits and pieces that attract anyones attention, let alone a curious 2 year old.  Oria is such a good listener, and well behaved little person.  She touched most everything, picked up some things and added them to our basket and put everything away that was asked of her.

We went into this amazing little store a couple weeks ago and Oria remembered the My Little Pony hair, so I had to pick it up for her today, this lovely little .15 cent goody makes for a fun scarf or hair accessory!

The reason why we went though was to pick up a few supplies for card lacing at my MIL’s suggestion.  I thought it was a brilliant idea to keep a girl on the mend busy, unfortunately she just doesn’t have the patience today for this project.  Luckily I also picked up some stickers and pencil crayons and those were a hit!

Oh and the pencil crayon in her mouth was because “it makes music”

A Weekend Around Here

Sunny time spent on our deck.  Birthday parties, trips to the woods, blanket forts and snuggles.

After we all stepped away from the blanket fort, Fenway snuck in and curled himself up and got comfortable.

Adventure

What a gorgeous day for a bike ride! I had big plans to cycle the in utero baby and toddler baby down around Stanley Park this morning for a biking adventure, but by English Bay the little was done with the cold and ready to turn around.

I thought this to be perfect timimg for crossing the Burrard Bridge and heading back around to Granville Island for a little food, warmth, and excitement.

Oria was quite happy with this plan, though getting there was a bit of a haul for me.  Once on the island we came across the most delicious looking cheese stuffed ginormous olives and decided on that as our snack.

I drank hot coffee, Oria chased pidgeons, we listened to some lovely musicians playing outside, smelled the flowers, and managed to warm ourselves up.

I decided today, at the suggestion of my husband, that we would not even attempt cycling up the hill home and instead hopped on a train to the top of the hill and rode down the hill home.  Its really hard hauling the belly around on bike when attempting hills.  Flat is perfectly easy, I can’t even tell I’m pregnant, but something about those hills really takes it out of me.  Besides the train ride was just the icing on the proverbial cake that was our adventure!

Flashback Fridays

Here’s a couple oldies that weren’t even taken on a digital camera. This was a camping trip we took in 2007 to Mystic Beach on Vancouver Island. This little place is paradise and I hope we can get back there with the Littles one day. We made a bar we called Sherpa’s and here is Paul fixing us some bevvies right on the Pacific Ocean! And one of my love and I with our stunning view from our campsite.

Photo spam.  Isn’t this Buddha the happiest, roundest looking one you’ve seen?  I love this guy!

Today is another very wet day in Van City, but our lovely pooch needed a good run in the woods, so we took him to the Canyon in the UBC endowment lands.  Oria hiked the entire canyon on her own two feet.  Thats quite a feat for anyone, let alone a two year old.  Now our whole family needs a nap.
