Clearly sugar is a drug. We stopped into a Greek bakery for a treat on our walk about and Oria was pretty excited when she saw pink and purple meringues with sprinkles on them, so that’s what she picked for herself.
Conversations with Children
A book my mother in law gave me for my birthday. I wrote our first conversation in it today. What a great idea for having a little piece of your kids childhood to look back on. For them too.
“Look mama, It’s a berella”
The perfect “umbrella” tree for Oria to climb and use her new circus skills.
She ate an entire foot long hot dog. The waitress didn’t think she could do it. I didn’t doubt she would.
Having graduated from the pink playhouse stage, 12-year-old Sicily Kolbeck is building a 128-square-foot solar powered abode as a place to ‘bake cupcakes, to read and to hang out with friends.’
OMG! This is so cool. What an amazing little 12 year old girl to take on such a fun project.
We went to this park today and a little 3 year old girl came over and took Oria by the hand. They were immediately best friends for a few minutes. So sweet! I love how easily kids can make friends.
I love living in a City where the weather is mild enough year round to get out on the bike or for a good walk about. My almost 6 month pregnant-ness is much less able bodied to get up the hills here, but a nice little ride to Granville Island is always lovely.
Today’s strawberries were almost as big as apples and sweet and delicious, the flowers were aromatic, chai tea was comforting and my super independent little held my hand almost the entire time (melting heart).
Usually we buy food for the pidgeons but last time we were down here the pidgeons kept landing in Oria’s hair and she didn’t love that so much, so the picture of her with her hands on her head is her protecting herself this time. We didn’t buy food today and no birds nested in her hair, but chasing pidgeons is more fun than anything else, that and eating these delicious strawberries.
Flashback Fridays
Here’s an oldie of my best friend and cousin Cindy. We were 5. We now have girls of our own the same age:)
I remember we used to spend a lot of time having picnics at the beach with my parents when I was 5.
Well I’m going to do a day in the life, of a Tuesday with me and my girl.
Oria and I seem to have a weekly Tuesday routine. We get up and slowly get ourselves out the door (usually that means coffee and smoothies).
We’re out the door by 10 am, we were this week for sure. Then we hop on our bicycle and ride the 2 km from our house to the seawall for a lovely 15 minute ride to Granville Island. We love it here, because there are entertainers, pidgeons, good food and variety, and of course Granville Island Tea (they make the best masala chai in town).
We spend a couple hours on the island, which include our cup of tea, usually iced rooibos for Oria and chai for me. Then we enjoy a $2 crepe (thank you Toonie Tuesdays), and a pidgeon feeding and run about. After many tourists photograph my super adorable non fearful child, we take a small bike ride over to the playground to get out any excess energy before making our trek home.
We’re home by 12:15, in time for some lunch, this week was a hard boiled egg, raw carrots, cheese and a plum.
Nap time at 12:45 until 3. Break for mom.
Up at 3 and spend a little time around the house before heading out on a walk about and trip to the local Tea Swamp Park.
This week was nice because my cousin Cotty surprised us for a little visit at Tea Swamp, so we spent an extra long time there visiting and playing.
Home by 6:30 for dinner. Eat a late dinner, skipped bath time and Oria was in bed by 8:15.
I wasn’t far behind:)
A little music in Douglas Park for the little people this evening. Oria and I biked over and set up a picnic, and our lovely friends joined us with their little one too. The girls ate…alot, danced alot, ran around alot and were pretty much done, before the show even ended.
Love these summer evenings in our City.
